Since being selected to stand in my home constituency, Camborne, Redruth, and Hayle, I have spoken to thousands of local people across the area. One of the issues that is raised with me time and time again is the issue of illegal migration. For many this is a major priority, and they want to know what I think about the issue.
Most people here in Camborne, Redruth, and Hayle believe in fairness, myself included. Put simply, they want our immigration to be fair to those who live here already and those who are fleeing war and persecution. But we also want a system where people follow the rules and don't come to this country illegally.
I find it completely unacceptable that taxpayers are paying out millions of pounds every day to accommodate illegal migrants who chose to come to this country illegally. This simply isn’t good enough. The issue of illegal immigration does not sit right with people across Camborne and Redruth, and I want to be clear, it doesn’t sit right with me either.
We need a common-sense approach. If you come to this country illegally, you cannot and will not be allowed to stay. Our government needs to be able to swiftly detain and remove these people back to their country of origin or if that is not possible a safe third country like Rwanda.
We cannot have both domestic or foreign courts limiting our ability to deliver this and deliver on the will of the British people. I am the only MP candidate here in Camborne, Redruth, and Hayle who will actually make this argument in parliament and ensure we take a firm approach on this through more legislation.
We must fully regain control over our borders. It is a basic expectation that people have of government and it’s something that they expect us to deliver on.
